Back to the future

Yesterday was pretty exciting.

And also, a bit anxiety provoking, but mostly full of giddy anticipation.

I was on my way to Europe…for the first time.

As I prepared to leave yesterday, I was struck by the dramatic role reversal: the vision of the parents leaving home with our carefully stuffed backpacks while our children wholeheartedly prepared to take on the mundane, domestic and other obligatory duties.

The kids are literally holding down the fort, while the parents meander off on an adventure!

For so many years now, I have been the giver of care. Actually – for as long as I can remember, even before kids, I have assumed a caregiver seat at the table.

The one who organizes and oversees.

The one who consoles and coordinates.

The one who administers and admonishes.

The one who soothes and structures.

The one who reminds and rewinds.

The one who does and dotes.

The one who placates and perseveres.

Basically I feel like most often, I am THE one.

Not to say that I am not sounded by some pretty exceptional human beings. I do have an incredible inner circle – who are making magic happen on a daily basis.

But me being me – I tend to pile the responsibility on to myself (as if I am the only one who can get the job done).

Silly me.

Yesterday, I was reminded of the end game.

The giving of care comes at a price, but the rewards can be priceless.

I am not the end all – except to myself.

And the beat goes on with Grit&Grace (London style).

Shoutout to all who everyone who encouraged, allowed, pushed and convinced me to get here. Let the adventures begin…
